Rise of Lamborghini

Lamborghini, the name everyone knows. The brand which is considered among the most luxurious and sporty cars. Lamborghini reminds everyone of the bull logo and low sports car with a raging sound but this not how the story started. The story started just with the raging sounds and that coming out from tractors. Yes! The story started from farming tractors when the founder of Lamborghini, Ferruccio Lamborghini started building tractors in his garage from the remains of broken vehicles lest from World War II. Let’s get deep into the story.

Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. which is world renowned public Italian Car manufacturing company which was founded by Ferruccio Lamborghini in the year 1963. Ferruccio Lamborghini was born in a small village in Italy and later in young years, he used to be a mechanic in someone else’s garage. He later started his tractor factory Lamborghini Trattori. Later he started a car manufacturing company to compete with Ferrari at that time. You would be amazed to know that Lamborghini is not an independent company now, it is controlled by Volkswagen Group under its subsidiary, Audi.

Lamborghini, in the beginning, came out to be very competitive and innovative company. It laid the foundation of standard layout for high-performance cars as a rear mid-engine, rear-wheel drive cars. This revolution took place only after the launch of Lamborghini’s first sports-passenger car ‘Miura sports coupe’ in 1966. Ferruccio Lamborghini didn’t allow the engineers to design race cars in the beginning because of high resource consumption of the racing cars and their manufacturing. But many engineers were very much passionate about race car design. Engineers started to design a car which could be the combination of both race car and a passenger vehicle, this idea seemed very impressive to Ferruccio Lamborghini and he allowed the engineers to make such car which later came out to be revolutionary Miura sports coupe. The first production car by Lamborghini was 350 GT.

Lamborghini had a hard time to reach where it stands today. In 1973, when worldwide financial crisis and oil crisis was going on, it hit the sales of Lamborghini hard. Lamborghini lacked financial resources from there on and in 1987, Chrysler Corporation took control over it. BMW once partnered with Lamborghini to produce rear-mid engine cars but due to lack of Financial Resources, it was not able to complete the production on time and BMW drew the project back. Even Chrysler was not able to give it quite of a rise from the pertaining situation and in 1994, Mycom Setdco, a Malaysian Investment group and V’Power Corporation, an Indonesian group took the charge but later and finally had to give it over to Volkswagen Group which controls the company today also.

Volkswagen had a good amount of financial and technical resources which led Lamborghini to rise, where it stands today. Lamborghini today produces sports cars and V12 engines for powerboats used in racing. It also produces Luxury Supercars, sports cars, and SUVs. Earlier in the 1980s, it has also produced the limited edition of motorcycles where assembly and design was the major part done by Lamborghini.
