Brief history of Automobiles

History dates back from the era when humans started living on planet earth. It would be weird to think that where an early man would be using an automobile. But as we look into the use of automobiles these days which is, for transportation purposes, the need is felt even in the era of earliest men.

Early men felt the need for transportation whenever there would be a famine. When one tribe would run out of food due to lack of fertile land and the nearby tribe would be having an abundance of food available. But the long and wide lake in between would make it very difficult to take a lot of food from one place to another.

To cross the lake, an early man came up with the idea if boat when he saw a wooden log floating on water. In the stone age, this incident invented the first ever means of transport, which would be so-called-boat. Later on, when the nearby tribe would refuse the help and would not grant the food to get relief from famine, it would hurt the ego of tribal chief very strongly and to take revenge, an attack should be prepared on the nearby tribe. Of course, of dogs and other domestic wolves would be taken along with tribe men, to attack the enemy tribe, it would make the attack strong.

But now, some tribesmen saw a brown four-legged animal which was later called the horse. The naughty ones started climbing that horse and came to know that it runs very fast. They informed their tribal chief and later the tribe started using horses as means of transport. From this came the invention of the horse-pulled vehicle, another step forward to future.

But the lazy people of the tribe always complained that they have to take too much care of their horses and bulls. They have to feed them 3 times a day, clean their shit, clean their bodies and help them with injuries. The complaints about the boat also started coming, lazy people always complained that they have to pull the boat with so much power. This was during the 18th century, work on steam engines was already started and 1st success came with Watt Steam engine which enabled semi-automatic factories to develop. This lead to the invention of steam locomotives.

Steam locomotives were the first practical form of mechanized land transport. But in the 18th century, the very first internal combustion engine came into success, it was de Rivaz engine. The engine used hydrogen and oxygen gas mixture to produce power. It was the first piston engine with internal combustion, inspired by army canon.

The internal combustion engine was made commercially successful by Étienne Lenoir. In 1877, Otto cycle was developed which gave higher power and was much more efficient. This changed the history and the whole world moved into future where we live in now. This whole dream came to reality after Carl Benz made efforts to produce a first practical automobile in 1877. After 1877 many inventions occurred due to which cars look like what we see now.
