Camshafts and Crankshafts

Many beginner car guys get confused between Camshafts and Crankshafts; both are different and have different functions too.

First, let us clarify Camshafts, Camshafts are rods having some type of lobs (called Cams) on them and are used to control the intake of fuel and air mixture into the Combustion Chamber. All intake and exhaust process in engine depends on the rotation of the camshaft, as it rotates, the cams also rotates which push the valve up and down letting the fuel-air mixture to get in the combustion chamber. This seems to be a very small concept but it has a huge impact on the performance of the vehicle. We all can think that.

Now coming to crankshafts, these are rods which send your wheels into motion. These are used to convert the back and forth motion of pistons into rotatory motion of wheels which gradually let your car to move.
